ok, this is going to sound really terrible...but I would like to know more about layers in PS (I actually have PSE7, so maybe this isn't for me...*sigh* I see many times on some of the PP notes of how many different layers are used and I simply don't use that many (hence my reason to learn)

That is exactly what I was looking for. Give me some time and I will create a file to show people more about layers.
If anyone else would like a how-to video and you don't want to post it send me an email, and I will keep you name out of it and still make the video.
I don’t have a clue about layers, except how to apply soft light ect. A simple lesson on layers would be great.
I agree...I hear all about layers but I just don't have an handle on what it "really" means...like when I got the Dq for Geology *multiple sighs* (still) I didn't know that what I was doing was a "adjustment layer". I just thought that was how you blended out the gaussian blur.

I took a class awhile ago and the teacher was using CS/3 I could follow along most of the time but I had to "translate at other times" I kind of consider that PSE7 is a "baby version" of CS/? I've found some great work arounds on some different sites....thanks for doing this...
I'd like to know about layers, too. How to make them, which methods make a picture better. I'd also like to know how to single out stuff, like make everything B&W except for one element, or to pull a piece of the picture away from the rest (perhaps to add it to another picture). I could probably figure this stuff out, but I can only really handle PS for about an hour at a time before frustration sets in and I shut it off for a few weeks.
What exactly is it about layers that you would like me to brake down? Or what about them would you like me to clarify?
I see all these different layers mentioned and I don't understand what they are doing and why. I guess I need to know some of the basic reasons for layers - I know that I do things on layers so that my original doesn't get altered and I can go back to that easily. but with PSE7 I can only go so far then I have to flatten my image then start another layer at that point...or maybe...I'm doing it all wrong to begin with...imagine that...hmmm

Same here. I hear of people using hundreds of layers in CS3/4, but in PSE7, some tools just don't work without flattening or merging layers. Personally, I have not quite grasped layer masks, erasing part of an effect to expose the original below for instance.
Okay great, I will explain how you do that. Perfect thanks for the feedback guys. I will start working on a tutorial for you all tomorrow and I will cover everything I can.

You do not need to flatten all your layers or any for that matter. don't worry I will explain how it's all done.
I will actually hold a (DPC) class on this so everything can understand it.
