A couple months ago I entered a photo contest in a German newspaper. I received a letter today saying I was in place 23 out of more than 3500 entries! The top 50 go on to a national competition. Top prize is a $4,000.00 + lens. The theme I entered under was, Everyday Life. My photo is titled "I am Human". It was the first contest I entered that required a print to be sent in.
I wanted to add that I hated taking this shot. We saw this guy I dubbed "the Dude" walking in the market square in Maastricht, Netherlands. My wife really wanted me to get his picture, but I always feel embarassed to take shots of homeless. Well, I only had my 18-50mm and as I walked by from a distance I snapped a few quick shots. I really had to crop the shot down. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed the look on the other guys face as he stared at him. Without the guy on the right staring ar him I doubt this shot would have any impact.
