Not sure of the stats twix dSLR/PS/Prosumer cams, but I think it would be good if dSLR owners could add the lens that was used in the picture stats? Would be nice to be able to search pictures on a specific lens.
This would be great! On my on photoblog, whenever I post a photo, I include
- Camera
- Lens
- Focal length (if a zoom lens)
- (optionally any extenders or extension tubes)
- Aperture
- Shutter Speed
- ISO
- Exposure Compensation, if any
- Flash, if any
- RAW, or JPG
I feel like that's good coverage when I go back years from now. And I love being able to search my own blog to quickly see a list of photos I took with a particular lens.
This could be done similar to the Camera pop-up menu, register your lens in advance in your profile, probably selecting from a list of all the Canon EF lens, the current Nikkor lenses, and allow people to suggest new ones, Sigmas, Tokinas, etc.
Good suggestion, not easy, but worth it for the education it would bring to the photo stats, etc. It'd even be fun to see what lenses won the most ribbons, etc. DPChallenge members can't get enough stats. Hrrmm...I wonder what the average vote is on wide-angle shots from telephoto users on speed challenges where the average score is less than 5.1.... ;-)

To what end? You can't gather any useful info from a photo as small as the ones entered here not to mention they have all been post processed to one degree or another.

Well, from a comment perspective, if I see a blurry image with a 1/60 shutter, I might wonder if the image was shot out of focus. If I see the focal length is beyond 100mm, I could suggest a faster shutter speed to avoid camera shake. From a technique perspective, seeing what lenses people use to make certain shots would help me know what to expect when composing my own pics.

How? If I say I took the picture with my Canon 50mm/1.4 and don't tell you exactly how much I cropped, you may be looking at an image that has an equivalent field-of-view of a 200mm lens...

Unlike most of us, some people didn't actually come here to learn, they came here mainly to compete and could care less about sharing their secrets. Their attitude is, "I learned the hard way, so should you", and they only dole out information when it makes them look smart. That's their perogative I guess. BTW, this is not directed at anyone in particular, just an observation. Cheers.
