ok, somehow while coming home from work tonight i lossed my internet/lan connection at home. i have no idea how it happened i just know i was offline when i got home.

my config is 2 PC's, 1 is the internet gateway for the other. the external PC is open to the internet, the internal one via 192.168.X.X IP. the external PC has duel NIC setup, 1 being for lan, the other for internet (this one is also shared).

now i got my external PC online (hence my posting this) but my internal PC is being a real SOB. i have it setup exactly as it was before w/ static IP and the gateway being my external PC's lan NIC IP address. i can not see the lan or the internet through my internal PC.

any ideas??

First thing is to get more information, such as what OS you are running and how you are sharing the connection. But, it sounds like a firewall issue.

thanks but i figured it out. it was windows xp btw. its funny, here i was spending forever trying to fully manual config it. i ended up sayin "skrew it!" and did a full auto re-install of components and the damn thing came right up.. thats what i get for trying to over complicate heh.

mental note: buy a friggin router!

Yes, Buy a router...

As for your Windows XP Install requiring a reinstall of the network components... Don't be alarmed, that is actually EXTREMELY common. It has happened to my Dell XP Installed Laptop Twice, my Windows 2000 Professional workstation once and more then a few Windows 2000/XP machines at the office.

It has something to do with a corruption in the registry and or the networking DLLs or a combination of both. All I know is it is a royal pain in the rear...
