I'm sorry, I like the SC and I think they do a good job, but considering that it's taken them up to 2.5 weeks to validate a couple of photos, it seems like there should have been leeway on this side as well. Since there were people that were watching this thread, they could have told Judy that they didn't have time to wait for the card to be sent. To be silent on the time frame, watch the card being sent off, and then DQ'ing seems mean.
If the time frame had been told to Judy in private, then I apologize to the SC. If not...
Far as I am concerned its the right decision - its not their fault Jutilda got caught cheating, and like other cheats before her, the DQ was quite rightly deserved.

I did send the card to Charles Rice, and if he finds something (which I doubt), then good for him for retrieving something I could not. To be honest, after working on finding the "real" original for over 18 hours, I don't care any more. I won it, I didn't cheat, and it's my mistake for using stupid software, although I've used it since the beginning of my digital photo viewing. You are the best and Simms, I may have to give you a spanking. Oh wait, you might like it. :~P

Perhaps the easiest way to protect files for validation (workflow aside) is to simply not erase/format your card until the challenge is over; for validation request you upload directly from your card/card reader (read as a drive.) Cards are relatively inexpensive these days, and no software/hardware issues.
(I also don't view images while on the card unless it is still in-camera.)
I asked the Microsoft guy (yes, I paid 49.00 so I could try and figure out if it could be fixed through Microsoft) but I didn't get an answer regarding 7.

It's pretty clear earlier in the thread that it's an issue with the new (to Judy) Vista and how it interacts with Microsoft Picture Viewer.

I think a similar thing used to happen with iPhoto and jpegs, particular if you had auto-rotate enabled. Not sure any more since a shoot RAW now and it's not an issue. However, I did get a validation request from the first challenge I ever entered. Best of 2001. The challenge was in 2006. The image I used was moved, viewed, OSs upgraded, photo archiving programs, iPhoto, file systems. etc. over several years, all on Macs. Didn't have an issue with that one.

That'd get pretty crazy and tedfious after a while if you enter nuimerous challenges and shoot often. With my camera shooting 15MB umage files and easily going through a card or two over a weekend, I imagine I could have two or three cards down during voting.
Of course, those files are so large 'cause I shoot RAW, so it isn't an issue.....8>)

Welllllll, no good news. :( Despite some serious data crunching and file reconstruction, all my horses and men could not put the deer back together again. Curse you, FAT filesystem haphazardly constructed atop simulated-IDE-interface wear-leveling hardware, curse you!
Judy, I know it's expensive but Lightroom is worth every penny. It copies your files to two different places on your hard drives and when you modify one, your image stays intact. The modifications are placed in a separate file and your original stays original, nothing is written to your image.
Well, let's just say we all gave it the ol' college try. It's just one of those things. I already have a request for a print and people made it their favorites here, so I'm happy with that. I really can't thank you guys enough for the support and well wishes. HUGS
