Some how or another I am shooting a wedding tomorrow for a friend. It was this far off thing at one time and I was gonna do the pictures..well the time is now. I was looking through my gear and getting all my stuff together when I had a idea. I grabbed a roll of black electric tape and taped over all the names and numbers. Now they appear before me , like unknown weapons waiting to put to the task at hand. From now on I think I am going to remove all the logos off my gear. anyways anyone have any advice.....I am using a d200 with 35mm 1.8 dx //55-200vr dx //28-85mm af nikkor macro 3.5-4.5....I also have a d50 I am bring along..I have sb600 flash it is outside with clear sunny skies as the forecast......this post is rather random wish me some luck..............................rt
One of the folks I know locally does that as well. There is a minor conversation going on about it in the note boxes for this pic I have posted on flikr Flickr. (I can't even type a misspelled word properly!)
I used to do it on my Nikon film cameras back in the day. The theory behind it, as it was explained to me, is that the white on black lettering is high contrast and can distract/attract the eye of the subject in an unnatural way.
I'd never use electrical tape though, it leaves a sticky residue. Gaffers tape is the way to go.
I know photogs that have done it for various reasons...
Shooting in areas where you don't want people to recognize you have a $2000 camera around your neck, thus making you a really good target.
Keeping people from knowing what gear you have, so they don't get any ideas and try to swipe jobs out from under you (especially prevalent now a days where every parent has a d40 or something)
get a Light sphere for your 600 and use it every time. might have to dial it back a bit to keep things from gettin washed out, but use it nonetheless. and avoid direct sunlight at all costs! (until sunset)
