I like the third one. I thought of something along those lines, but you did it really nicely!! I don't think we will see a lot that's "never" been done, but more of how interesting of a spin each person puts on it. Just my opinion.
What a time for my internet connection to take a dive...I was just finishing up answering all the questions of the universe here when poof I got shucked off. Seriously I forgot what I was going to say. Oh yah.
The third one is a great picture and unusual viewpoint.
I think this challenge is going to be one of my easier ones as my mind is a little goofed up and I look at everything from an unusual viewpoint, so much so people are constently asking "What are you doing" when I take pictures.
My tip: Place your camera where no human could ever stand (or get their head easily) and view something. I had my arm strecthed out in the most awkward way to capture my entry into this challenge, 30+ shots and I was finally happy with it.

I really wish peeps would not put photos out that are there "rejects".
What if someone has a similar photo they really like and enter, how would they feel?

I agree to some extent. I like seeing other peoples ideas, especially when they are done this well, but it does prejudice similar entries. I rejected mine after seeing this one (it was not nearly this good!).
Well now I've ticked off two people at once...I should be grounded or something. I truly apologize!

Now the part that sucks is that I probably should have submitted the third one and now I can't. I thought it was too out of focus around my kiddo's face/head, and the sky was too blown out. Oh well, I have learned...

1) They're not "out-takes" until you've submitted and the challenge is closed ... so it's a little misleading. I prefer the term "alternate shots" anyway. Maybe label the thread "help decide my submission" instead.
2) I don't like seeing them before or during the voting either -- I think the appropriate time to discuss one of these is after the challenge, when it can be compared with the result the actual entry received.
3) If you only put text links rather than thumbnails, then no one can be prejudiced or influenced who doesn't choose to be.
4) I have a similar reaction to all threads discussing "interpretations" of the challenge topic. I often avoid them altogther.
I think discussion and idea/picture-sharing is fine so long as it's done with consideration of others, and of the site itself. After all, the time to get input on one's photo is during the challenge ... otherwise why not just each start our own thread with our photo in it?
I've taken dozens of pictures, and can't come up with much that says, "Wow...that's an unusual viewpoint!" Anyone else having trouble???

First and third would have rated at least sevens from me. The train track may be a common shot in DPC but the addition of the incoming train makes it a little bit different. The third one has a lot going for it ... colors are bright in tune with the theme, the camera absolutely loves your son, and the framing is interesting (centered framing, off-center subject ... love it!).
