Hi,

New to DPChallenge, so please go easy on me!

I've taken a photo to submit to the 'Nine' competition and have so far converted it from .NEF to .JPEG using the Irfan software. Unfortunately, when I load the .JPEG file with Irfan or the Windows software, or even with Serif PhotoPlus 10, the EXIF data is no longer available! (Serif can't find the EXIF data from the original .NEF file).

When I performed the conversion in Irfan, I made sure to choose the option to keep the EXIF data but it doesn't seem to have worked.

Any ideas on how I can attach the EXIF data (which I can take from the original .NEF file via Irfan)?

If I cannot get the EXIF data attached to the file, would it still be possible to submit the photo with the EXIF data separately? I think the feedback on this site is excellent and is what I need to help me improve my photography and basic post-processing skills.

You don't have to submit the EXIF in challenge entries. Just make sure you have the UN-edited file, your original, if asked for validation. Your original .NEF file should have the EXIF still attached. Saving for web generally strips the EXIF from the shot.

Sorry - I know nothing about Irfan or the other one you mentioned. Someone will though and I am sure they will respond.

As CEJ said, No EXIF is required for the entry, but be sure you save the NEF. That means straight from the camera. Because that is what they will require to validate your photo if need be. This also goes for any other format you may shoot with, be it TIFF or JPEG. Always retain the file direct from the camera. Most people here will make two copies of the Original store one in a seperate folder and use the other for editing.
