Would you say these 2 shots are HDR or not?
They were actually both processed from a single RAW file in Lightzone and no actual HDR tonemapping was done. Just played around with the sliders in relight and added a polaroid filter and this is the result. I think it has a kind of HDR look to it but it would be interesting for me to know if HDR is the first thing that comes to your mind when you view this. This with the HDR challenge in mind.

Quite normal to use a single raw file and process it like an hdr photo. It's all about getting details in borth highlights and shadows on the same photo, and that you did. Si I would say yes! Not to mention that you're pictures looks like a soft hdr photo as well.
If you tossed such a shot in the HDR challenge, I would think they were HDR, but not heavily tonemapped. If I saw them outside the challenge, It probably would not occur to me.
look at the clouds. hiding it in a webres image isn't really the point of HDR.

Sorry...but what is a "webres" image? Not trying to hide anything by the way. These are just 2 quickly processed images to establish whether the processing makes them look like HDR. I didn't work on the noise as that had nothing to do with what I wanted to know.
I personally would not have thought that it had any HDR treatment in any way really. It looks very natural albeit with nice detail all over. So what are the technicals behind your shot Steve?
The first version actually is an HDR, merged from 3 seaparate JPEG exposures in Photmatix basic. The second one is the medium exposure from the same shot with Topaz adjust thrown at it (Quite sloppily, too). The point I wanted to make is that it is hard to tell just by looking at it. For many of us anyway. Perhaps someone with a more discerning eye could tell a true multiple exposure HDR .
That's the second comment I got on the lighting with my avatar. Would you believe it was simply the flash bounced off a white ceiling in the kitchen? The background is an overexposed shot of a lunar eclipse from last year.
