ok I have been searching the internet all night for a good tutorial on how to convert a photo to hdr. I even been through most of the dpc forums for some good tips. On all the tutorials you either need to have photomatix or adobe photoshop cs2, etc. I only have adobe photoshop 5.0 and I am so confused. I don't even know where to begin. Sorry if this post is just cluttering the forums but can onyone help?
Have you looked in the HDRII thread? Soulman1978 posted a link to this program he said it is not free but he has been using the trial version for 2 years. Might be worth checking out, Because you are not going to get very far in HDR with PS5
ETA: there are links to some other programs in that thread also worth having a look at.
If you want to go the photomatix route, they have a freebie version. It does not have all the bells and whistles of the pay version but it will merge the images for you. I'm using it right now. Here is the direct download link for the free version.
ok now how do i save things using the photomatix? I tried saving and it tried using some hdr format. When I went to open it in photoshop to do alittle more editing it wouldnt allow that. Can I save it jpeg or soemthing like that?
do whatever work you can in the photomatrix, then convert to jpeg or tiff so you can finish it off in photoshop.

the only options i have to save it in is exe hdr and tiff....none of them options allow me to open it in photoshop.... geez so frustrated, was so close to figuring this all out......but thanks alot for trying to help.
geez like when i save it TIFF and tried to open it in adobe it says ps5 doesnt support the hdr stuff, etc... says only works in cs2 r later.....i guess im just too behind everyone else....SOL i guess :( sucks
Photoshop 5 should support TIFF. Try opening photoshop first then dragging and dropping the file into Photoshop. I could be wrong though it has been about 6-7 years since the last time I used PS 5
I have the full version, so this might not help... but it might be because it's saving in 16 or 32 bit. Is there any control in that version to what bit tiff it exports as?
I doubt PS 5.0 supports 16 bit files. That could be the issue.
elTORO Will it allow you to convert it down to 8 Bit? If it does allow you to convert to 8 bit
Perhaps then it would give you the option to save as a jpeg.
