There are actually a large number of threads on this... but if you only have an hour...
- Tripod is mandatory
- Use Manual mode, ISO 100, f/8 and set focus to manual
- Focus by making trial exposures on a distant object with aperture wide open, then switch focus to manual, Av to f/8, and mode to manual
- Use exposure time as required to capture one or more explosions. Good exposure times range from a 10 seconds to about 30 seconds. Use a remote trigger if you have one, otherwise use a longer exposure than you want and hold your hand over the lens when you hit the button, then remove it after a second or so when vibration has died out
- Make sure you don't position yourself downwind if you can avoid it. The smoke from previous explosions will interfere with subsequent ones.
