I've been in contact with some magazines about shooting and submitting models for their publications. One of the magazines I've been in contact with is outside of the US (actually in the UK). They normally work with photographers and models in the UK so they have different sets of rules on how they pay their photographers. Since I'm in the US I would have different set up, finding my own models, etc.
The question i have is how much would you charge for a photo set of a model with a 1 year exclusivity on photos they accept?

there's also a difference between being a contributor and being on assignment. most publications have assignment rates that typically pay more than stock rates (because they are commissioning something to be produced that they couldn't obtain elsewhere). what they pay contributors depends on a number of factors (ie, how well known is the contributor, how the contribution is going to be used, the availability of a similar contribution at a lower price, etc). depending on the situation, they'll probably pay more than what they'd pay a stock agency, and sometimes they'll pay more for a contribution than they'd pay for an assignment.
all the same, a stock calculator is a good place to start. second, you'll need to ask the individual publications what type of rates they normally pay and gauge from there.
