The title refers to PS composites, not people who are overly obtrusive (sorry, bad pun).

I have this picture

Pirate vs Ninjas

which I'm willing call it a day on. It's not terrible, but it's not great either. Everyone just looks stuck on. And the shadows are terrible! I suspect it has something to do with color adjustments due to lighting differences, but I wouldn't know how to fix that anyway (curves? levels? hue/saturation? all of the above?) Plus, with the background HDRd, it may never look quite right. But for general knowledge, how does one superimpose people into images and have it look natural? What are some general tips? I find the biggest problem for me is contact with the ground.

it's not that bad except for the ninja on the wall and the jumping one, problem is indeed the shadows; light in the yard seems to come mainly flat from above so there wouldn't be shadows like you created them, but darker shadows exactly below the guys - like in this image:. The jumping ninja should be less sharp, the one on the floor left looks too small, the one at the wall is too large

Chip, I think the shadows under the feet cause problems -- it makes it look like everyone is floating. Otherwise, the image is too large for me to get an overall view on my monitor.

Got it. So I'll blur the jumping ninja, enlarge the Crouching Tiger, shrink Spider-man, and adjust the shadows they are directly under the subjects.

Any advice on how to make the shadows? I duplicating the layers, applying levels to make it all black, applying Gaussian blur, and then transforming to distort. I am changing the blend mode on the shadow layers to multiply and lowering the opacity, but as citymars points out, everyone still looks like they're floating. And the shadows look fairly unrealistic. Thoughts?
