A lot of his victims had a life expectancy way in excess of that, but he decided to cut that short. Sorry, call me barbaric, but I would of happily left him to rot in a jail cell without medical treatment, pain relief - just so he can sample a bit of the suffering he caused the families - lets see, 270 killed, so for arguments sake they had close family averaging 15 people? So whats that? 4000 broken hearts? That`s a lot of pain.

Agreed. The 270 people on that plane didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to loved ones. I guess this is the new world. Give everyone a hug and feel good, no worries. I feel ill...

Is there even an inkling of a chance that his early release will promote a softening of attitudes towards this U.S. among other potential terrorists? Like, "Huh, those infidels aren't so bad after all, maybe we should quit killing them?" More likely it will be "Suckers!"

I'm guessing "Suckers". According to the article the US has tried to block or discourage his release but maybe potential terrorists will look more favorably towards Scotland...

He should have never been put in prison in the first place. His crime was bad enough to justify a firing squad. Whom ever decided to cut this guy loose should be kicked in the nuts 270 times with a steal toe boot.
what does this have to do with USA justice systems? he wasn't jailed in the us nor did the us let him go
I understood the thread topic, and OP to be an apology to the USA for letting this guy out early, considering he killed many Americans.
TO give BeefnCheez credit, he didn`t realise that I was from the UK and hence didn`t get the general gist of the thread - I was just pretty annoyed about the whole thing ( I get wound up over stupid decisions by our Government and their little puppet government up in Scotland) and sort of snapped back in that rather condescending way of mine.. my bad (as you would say in the US).
I an interesting twist, I heard a report that some of the families of those killed on the ground aren't all that upset, since they're unconvinced that this fellow was actually guilty, and that certainly he didn't work alone -- they're more upset with the failure of both the British and US governments to pursue justice to its ultimate end, and instead to scapegoat this one person, be he perpetrator or patsy.
