I'm not sure what to do about all the alcohol and cigarette photo's? Vote as normal, but request DQ's? Just glancing thru, there seems to be a lot. I don't want to start requesting DQ's if they are all allowed.

There was much discussion of this during submission period. apparently somewhere in the rules photos of or about cigarettes and alcohol are specifically not allowed. But I would bet a hell of a lot of money that nothing will be DQ'd simply for portraying them.
Time for someone to really go through the rules with an eye for detail and language and tidy them up so that they say what they mean?
Thanks Hopper. I guess it's only a legal requirement - but that does explicitly state that we are not allowed to post depictions of smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol.

I don't see why there would be any retroactive DQs. Aside from retroactive being patently unfair the wording is rather specific, "encourages or depicts the use of...". Those words right there would allow most if not all of the photos of cigarettes and alcohol on this site.
A burning cigarette and open (or 1/2 empty) bottle of alcohol is a depiction of use ... no?

I think the rule is to vote on the photo as if it were legal and to go ahead and request a DQ if you think it is not. So if the photo really is a 10 photo but you feel the subject is against the rules give it a 10 and submit the DQ request.
The terms of use working was written as a legal catch-all, but we rarely enforce the alcohol/cigarettes aspect of it (unless promoting to minors, etc).

In my reading the rules say, paraphrasing, If you think a shot should be DQed vote as if you KNEW it was LEGAL and put in for a DQ. In this case I think the DQ issue has been delt with but I wanted to stress the voting aspect, don't discount your vote because you think it is illegal, let the SC deal with that. You can discount your vote because you think the subject matter is repellant of course.

Are you speaking generally, or to me? I don't think I even implied that I was going to do that (discount my vote). My original question was whether or not I should bother to request dq's ... not how I would score the shots. Perhaps one of us isn't understanding the other.
