This is a photo I composited together for class. It's my first time compositing, so I was hoping to get a few good tips from you guys since some of you are pretty awesome at it. Feel free to be as pit-picky as you want because this has to be printed as an 8x10 for class.
I think it would look better if the background were flowers. It would look like the candy came from the flowers instead of a maple tree. I like the tree, they just look disconnected to me.
The assignment was to create a "conceptual" series of images. There were a few guidelines (like we had to shoot the subject using the 4x5 with the digital back), but we were given free reign to create whatever we want and show we learned something in the class.
All of the photos in my series have small creatures carrying heavy loads of sweets. I know my idea could be a bit more solid, but it's supposed to be a (humorous) commentary on greed.
I like the technical aspect however, the greed part seems to be missing something. Maybe if they had other butterflys in there "starving" or something....hope this helps.
Nice work but what is the "situation"? What is the assignment? If the assignment is "portrait" then you failed big time ! LOL...Just kidding...but to make a real judgement I'd have to know the assignment.

I was hoping to shoot something more flowery for the background, but there is a wildfire nearby that has been messing with the light for a week now : / I had to use a photo I took a few months ago as the background because nothing I shot this week was bright/fairytale-esque/pretty/lit enough. I'll look through my photos and see if I have anything else that might fit too.
It's a fun idea for sure. :-) Something about the butterfly seems a little weak to me. Like it could be larger, if not larger maybe straighten it out some and get both antenna going in the same direction (forward). Not sure if I'm explaining it right, but basically I'd like to see the butterfly somewhat "stronger".
Something just didn't look quite right to me but it took me ages to figure it out. It's the slackness in the loop of string that the butterfly is carrying the box with. :)

I tried to make the string stick out to give the impression of speed, but I'll try to make it a bit more slack. Thanks!
Nooo, not more slack, less slack! :) If you were carrying a heavy box there would be no slack at all in the loop, would there?
I agree, the slack in the string threw me off right away. The box of candy should be pulling the string tight. Other than that I like the picture. The background works for me. Flowers might be better but I like what you have.
