Yesterday I asked about equipment - today it is about getting customers.
How does a brand new studio photographer get "known" or get "paying clients"?
Do I photograph family and friends for free or very low prices to build a portfolio? Do they then go out and spread the word? Do I advertise on Craig's List for models and barter for service?
I simply can't imagine running an ad or posting on Craig's with a FULL price for a photographer who is just starting out. This doesn't seem like the way to get people to my door !
Any suggestions from the pros? How did you start?
