They all vanished. Seymore went MIA after only a few stops, and the other ducks were lost shortly after, if I remember correctly.
Sam the Duck stopped to visit with me in NY, which was fun. I sent him on his way and I don't know what happened to him then. It's really too bad, since it was a great project. I seem to recall that the member who did all the work organizing it got really upset over the way it fell apart, and washed his hands of the whole thing.
And what about the eggs? When i came to DPchallenge they were always here.
But i miss the ducks too.
Ahhh... Pedro... There was an actual Duckie "project", a couple of particular ducks were being sent around the world with accompanying CF cards, to DPCers who had signed up to host 'n shoot them, and they just all apparently disappeared on the way because people didn't give a sh*t anymore, or something... Bummer...
But you're right, in the "good old days" we used to see lots of duckies in challenges (I did half a dozen myself) but apparently we're too serious to goof anymore?
Peregrine the tiger went MIA wel over a year ago. It is such a shame that someone commits to a fun activity like this, and then can't be bothered to follow through. Peregrine had a diary travelling with him andthose who he came to visit put a lot of effort into completing it.
Oh, I remember, and I was so looking forward to having him visit :) Where did he end up, anyway?

That way if something happens, it could be brought back on line and continue on.
It might take a little more responsibility on the behalf of the participants, i.e. that everyone agree to split the cost of the replacement card should it disappear during shipping, and everyone would have to do a download before they send it on so that what's on the card can be refreshed.

Sounds good in theory, but I, for one, would not agree to chipping in a part of a cost of something if only one bad link in the chain decided they couldn't hold their end of the bargain. Especially when we're relying on the strangers of the internet here.
There's a reason why things like this fail most of the time (when they succeed, they tend to end up on the news as a 'feel good' story). Humanity is horrendously unreliable :)

Yeah, people tend to get caught up in the momentary enthusiasm then promptly forget about it again. There would need to be some way to make sure that the next destination is still interested and prepared to follow through.
I'd be up to trying it again, but yeah we would need active users only, and definitely PM the next one in line to assure they will follow through. We need a leader to get this started and I assume we would need a Seymour II as well.
Maybe, instead of having a pre-set list of recipients, when it gets to the next destination its posted and the first to post they want it next gets it. I'd love to do this, but I know there will be times when it would be inconvenient due to being out of town, etc.

Hmmm, Florida eh? That makes sense. He was probably shot or sold into Cuban slavery.
I could plant an explosive device inside Seymour with a timer that can only be reset by the next person in the chain. Anyone who fails to keep things going gets blown to smithereens. Kinda like "Hot Potato" but with more severe consequences. What'ya think?
