and she wants to be in a field of sunflowers...the mamoth ones preferably, but at this point I can't locate any... but do have some TALL ones..
I thought about using a ladder to raise her above them...but don't want it to look like 'hmm, she must be on a ladder'...

No, you want to be above her so that the background of the picture is all sunflowers and not the trees or buildings behind the field of flowers. You should be able to space her between the rows of flowers fairly easily. If need be, use a short footstool to bring her up a little.
I shot this one of my kids in a field of dwarf sunflowers from a ladder to get the best background. My son was on a short footstool.
