Ok, here's an odd question for those of you with all the wonderful bug photos. I have this extremely kewl looking spider (orange and black - haven't seen one like him before) that I would like to photograph, however, he's apparently one of the world's stupidest spiders. My front door has leaded glass on it. He has made his web on the glass, which I assume was difficult as it was, but he is on the side between the glass and the web. The glass is too thick to get anything decent from the other side. His underbelly is nothing exciting. Any suggestions on getting him on the proper side or how to move him to a location he may be inclined to stay at for a little bit? I've always assumed the majority of bug photos were "candids", but if you have bug posing advice let me know :)

The only thing I can think of is to vibrate one of the anchor threads to the web. You could use a blade of grass or something lightweight. That may either a) get him thinking there is a bug up there or b) get him thinking his web is about to be destroyed. He may hightail it up to one of the corners. You would then hope when he returns he'd do it on the other side, but I bet he'll go back to the same side again.

Thanks, tried it and he curled up and looked dead. I'm waiting to see if he uncurls or maybe he was dead all along and it just tightened around him :(

you could also try to catch a small, small, teeny tiny bug to guide/put on the web and see if it'll come out for that.

I know in some movie sets that call for spiders they will use air, either from a hair dryer for the bigger ones or light puffs from a straw of sorts... they usually tend to walk away from the air...
