I've often wanted to go through challenges picking and choosing through thumbs to leave comments, without voting. It's such a pain in the neck I give up.
It would be great if we could:
1. click a thumb to open up the large version,
2. leave a comment,
3. hit a Submit Comment button,
4. return to the thumbs page we were previously at.
As it stands now, as far as I know, I am forced to move on to the next full-size entry and weave my way back to the thumbs via the home page, so I just don't comment during challenges.
You can do that! Just click on the little paper icon next to "rate this photo"....the photo will pop up in its own window, you can leave a comment, close the window and remain at the page full of thumbnails. Can't believe you didn't know that considering you've been here so long.

Speaking of little icons...this may be news to some; you can click on the little icon next to the challenge description from the thumbnail view - or - from each individual challenge entry voting page to view current challenge details (#votes, #comments, #DQ's, etc...).

That's interesting, I was unaware of that. And it makes for interesting analysis:
Note that at this moment in time, nearly 12 hours into the challenge, there are 188 distinct "participants", of whom 160 are actual entrants, and that nearly 6,000 votes have been cast. In other words, only 28 of the commenters/voters, at this moment, do NOT have an entry in the challenge. What significance, if any, can be attached to this factoid I do not know, but it DOES sort of make one wonder what would happen if they ever enacted the oft-requested modification tot he voting rules where we would be banned from voting on challenges we had entered...

I think photos would be ranked on the basis of about 15 votes ... :-(
