My experience has taught me that your portfolio book should be something that allows you to change images from time to time, because your skill level will change drastically in just a year or two with regular practice professionally. You would not want to spend a great deal of cash on a well produced book, only to be embarrased to show it 2 years from now. I started with a hand-made leather portfolio that a photog friend of mine had made for me. I mounted images in it with photo corners so I could change them out if needed. These days I have several printed books, weddings, seniors, children, etc., but I still don't spend a fortune as I know I will want to update them in as little as 1 year.
