I don't know how to do any kind of selective thing, but was just wondering if just using the basic sliders that do the whole image are legal to use in Basic Editing.
I have a free trial of Topaz Adjust 3, it's going to be expiring soon, and I'm considering buying it, but since Photomatix isn't deemed legal, I wondered what plug-ins might be.
I was about to ask the same thing. I would feel that if it is used in a moderate amount it may be legal. Maybe...
What I know how to do with Topaz seems to be global, but I heard of a few people in that side challenge talk about Topazing certain parts.....I didn't know if that was related to the Topaz process, or if it was done on layer masks......or some other process I don't know how to do.

Jeb, you can do layers and mask out what you don't want. Or you can actually make a selection and only do topaz on the selection.

I didn't think you were allowed to do any selection or masks in Basic.
ESPECIALLY if you wanted to use a plug-in like Topaz.

eta: I'm not sc, of course, but I'm pretty sure topaz wouldn't be legal in basic since virtual photographer isn't. And virtual can't hold a candle to what topaz can do. I don't think sc has ever actually chimed in on any of these topaz threads though.

SC has specifically ruled that tone mapping, via photomatix pro, is illegal in basic, so Topaz Adjust can't possibly be legal; there's very little difference between them, practically speaking.
I also really appreciate what Topaz can do, but have operated under the belief that it is not legal in basic, since Lucis Arts, Photomatix, and Virtual Photog aren't. And using Topaz in parts of an image or using different effects such as smooth and flat / dramatic in the same image can be quite effective I think.
