hey, still working on pics for the Spanish classes, but this is for the Spanish Performance Competition which happens every year.... right before finals... *sigh*
There's this one pic that I just can't see for composition...
I was wondering if anyone might have something to offer in the line of advice.
I've been looking at too many pics, so my eye is a bit skewed. I can't decide if it should go straight or more strongly angled.
This is just out of bridge, so don't worry about any other modifications. Just the crop. Thanks.
For me, straightened due to the reflection. The problem I found when cropping was subject placement without having a really odd sized photo when done.
yeah, but I'm not too worried about that since the pics are just going onto a dvd. The students might print some of them, but most of them will end up on their blogs or something. Odd sizes are fine there.
For what it's worth, I've squared it up by skewing the image, down on the right and up on the left, instead of rotating and cropping. This maintains the aspect ratio, at the expense of making the figure look "thicker"; but considering the isolation of the figure as the only element in the photograph, making it more prominent may not be a bad thing. I also ran Topaz Adjust, Vibrance, on the image.

dang, that's pretty nice.
I had quickly given a bit of thought to the idea of doing some free transform stuff like skew. I like the way it worked out in yours, horizontal, but still has a feeling of the lines leading away.
Too bad I don't have time to learn this whole topaz thing. Gotta get this whole project done by tuesday morning and danged if my DVD burner packed it in too.
I still have to run the final batch too. I'm expecting 12 hours. I think I'll do half tonight and half later.
And there's a surprise pre-midterm test tomorrow morning at 8. yech. Methinks it's going to be a long day tomorrow.

neat thing about that shot is the way the two halves almost look like angel wings. This version makes good use of that.

Topaz is EASY at the level I'm using it here. Download free trial, install, it shows up as a filter in Photoshop or Elements. It has built-in presets; just click on one to preview the effect. If you like it, accept it and it processes the image for you. In this case, it was the "vibrance" preset. Topaz ia arguably the fastest, most effective way of processing a lot of images from a shoot like this, that need "enhancing", because you can set it all up as an action within photoshop and you're in business for bulk processing.
