I've been rafting a few times out in Colorado. With class V rapids, think "being dunked completely underwater" for the level of wetness to expect -- much more than just being splashed. There's a chance of you/your gear getting tossed out of the raft at some point, too.
Most places will have a couple of drybags that you can put your gear in, along with everyone elses gear. These are made out of very heavy plastic and are thoroughly sealed - in my experience they do keep things dry. The downside is that usually you can only get your stuff when the raft stops for lunch or whatever. They keep the bags sealed and packed in the raft while underway - and your camera may be on the bottom of the pile. Also, the bag won't protect the camera from being bumped around, so bring your own padding.
Personally, I'd leave the digital at home and get one of those waterproof disposables to take along. |
