i need some suggestions on how to process all the photos i take. over the past three days i have taken 2000+ photos and have only actually seens about 800 of them. i have to convert all of them to dng before i can view them, and then everything to jpeg so i have smaller files to work with. i am getting very bogged down with all the photos, as it takes a lot of time to both convert and edit all of them. does anyone have a system for dealing with massive amounts of photos? any suggestions would be great.
If you can open the originals with Photoshop, create an action to perform the steps you listed and save the new files somewhere, and then batch-process the images overnight while you sleep ... I'm figuring most other software which can see your RAW files can do something similar.
no, i have a 5dII, so i cant view the originals in photoshop, which is why i ahve to convert to the dng first. once i get them started i can leave them overnight, but the programs tend to get cranky and only convert in batches of a few hundred
Download a 30 day trial of lightroom. It will see the original files and so can you. Just import them, and then export them as JPEG at 100%.
Matt
what happens when i fall in love with lightroom and end up having to buy it? im trying to avoid more debt right now, as im still in the red $2400 b/c of the new 5d. but i will consider getting it, depending on how much i like the trial(jeez im just asking for trouble i swear)
Hi Katherine,
You could download exifpro (//www.exifpro.com), it's an excellent an fast viewer, it displays the 5DII raw files, you can then rate, tag, sort and select your pictures and convert only the best images into dng.
And yes, exifpro is free!
Having a 5DII too, I can't miss it anymore.
Hope it helps
Michel

Turn the monitor off when you do that overnight. It is not being used while you sleep. If you have a mac or a laptop you can turn off the screen while making the computer work on the images.

if i turn my moniter off the dng stops being able to convert. i have no idea why cause you'd think the moniter would have nothing to do with the programs
