I've downloaded the free trial and I'm following a tutorial from Youtube and having a problem... I am trying to use the chalk cloner brush to begin cloning the background on a picture and it's not working...
My foreground color is set to black & my background color is set to white.
I have it set to "pick up underlying color" but it's not doing that, it's only painting on black & I believe it's because of my foreground/background settings.
The guy on the tutorial has his set to what looks like a pre-set grey on grey and I can't figure out how to get mine to do that... I obviously want it to pick up the background colors.. Anyone know what I'm missing here.
I think I have the light version of Painter that came with my upgrade to PaintShop Pro Ultimate. If nobody else has an answer, I can give it a try on my copy this evening when I get home. Can you post a link to the Youtube video, so I can see what you are trying?
Here's the problem... When I get to the part when he starts cloning the background which is basically the very first step, all I end up doing is painting black. It's not cloning anything or sampling the background color even though I have that box checked. I have a feeling this is due to my FG/BG colors because I have made sure that all of my settings match the tutorials except for this. His are set at two different grey tones and I can't figure out if that's some sort of setting that's effecting this process....
To me this is like when you first were learning how to do layer masks and you thought you were reading to start masking out parts of your image but you forgot to click that icon so all you were doing was actually painting directly onto your photo.. This is just a guess at what the problem may be but that's what it seems like..
Also, here's another link to another tutorial I'm having the same problem with.. LOL.. Somehow I thought starting another project would fix the issue.. NOPE>
edit to point out that this time, when I start my initial brush strokes, absolutely nothing happens.. nothing at all.. no black this time, but nothing on the trace paper and nothing on the image.. seems I've gone from bad to worse
but, I've narrowed it down to this.. It's a problem with which brush I'm picking.. I need to use a clone brush but the brushes he's using in the tutorial are not within the clone brush pallette.. Not sure why that is.. Those brushes are all there, and I suspect there is a way to use them in "clone" mode, but I don't know how to do that..
I spent some time with Painter essentials this morning and I would have to learn a lot more about this app before I could even begin to be able to help you with it. It is very different from a photo editor. Here's my first result with it, after also passing it through Topaz Adjust.
