Okay......I guess I must have missed it that only this guy was to get a shot. I really thought that having waited while he did his thing, and then wandered off, that it was reasonable for me to expect that some courtesy in return was reasonable. Obviously from what you guys think, I was mistaken.
EDIT: Never mind. I just saw the photo. I can guess what your thread started out as. i'd be irked too. I was trying to take a shot of something myself just yesterday and I had numerous people keep walking into my shot. They all knew I was there and I was very obviously waiting for them to get out of the way. Turns out the shots sucked when I got them anyway, but that's besides the point.
You should have just kicked that blazing frying pan right across the tent and landed it at the guy's feet. That would have gotten him to move, and maybe you could have gotten a couple of good humorous shots too. ; )

We've all been in that situation, it's a PITA, we cuss out the other guy under our breath, and move on. Nothing wrong with venting if it bothered you that much - although if it did, perhaps you should have just said to the guy, "Excuse me, I'd like to get a photo of this, do you mind stepping aside for just a moment?"
And if he gives you a nasty reply, perhaps he'll "accidentally" trip as he goes by :-)

When I stepped up, he walked directly in front of me and ruined my shot, as well as blinding me with his flash.

From reading this without your original post, I would have to say that you might have misread those first two posts. They are calling the guy in FRONT of you an ass. Not you. Yeah, it was rude and inconsiderate. Did you say anything to him to that effect? Sometimes calling these jerks on their actions has some effect - sometimes it just makes you feel better afterwards.
I don't see where anyone's remarks here make it all your fault. Maybe nobody jumped up and waved a flag agreeing with you, but I got the impression that there was a subtle agreement that yes, people can be jerks. (And we should all know that Art can't be taken seriously!) I guess you were really hoping for that flag-waving agreement here - sorry you didn't get it.

I'm looking for a Mark III strap and/or a D3X strap, as some people seem to part ways like the red sea to let those folks take their shots.
Seriously this happened to me before. I just turned my flash on slave on it would happened to always be facing him when his flash went off.
Best thing to do before an event is meet and say hi to the photographers around at the time and they will usually notice you and let you take some shots too. Doesn't always happen but those are the ones that you do the slave flash thing to.
