Is anybody using this lense with the rebel? I took some test shots with it today ,I am looking for a second opinions.or maybe just an excuse to spend more money!lol
I love it. It was my first purchase after the kit lens. The IS is great, but I have found it is still preferable to have the shutter at roughly 1/100 or better when fully zoomed out. Or maybe I just have really shaky hands...
I have this lens. It's my main lens. Works great. Seems a bit soft out of cam compared to my Sigma 105mm and Canon 70-200mm F4 but it reacts to USM very well. I'd recommend it.
P.S. I don't really know about the macro function. You really need a macro lens to get a good close up. Specs at BHPhoto says it has a maginfication of 1:5.26 which isn't enough to do really interesting macro shots.
It's not an L lens, but it's not priced that way either.
I have this lens, I think it's great for what it is. The IS works well.
It's pretty sharp, focuses fast and does what you want it to.
Not really much for macro though. If you want Macro buy the Sigma 105 Macro lens, or the Canon 100mm Macro or another actual macro lens. That is the best way.
I'm very pleased with this lens... bought mine about 2 weeks ago. It's now become my everyday lens which used to be Tamron 28-200 F3.8-5.6 Aspherical XR.
Like Jacko said, photos are a bit soft out of camera but USM works great.
I find it a bit heavy though compared to my other lenses and because it's a 72mm thread I had to buy a bigger polarizer and I have yet to get a new ND filter.
A good alternative is the Canon 28-105mm 3.5-4.5 USM
It's about $225. and is lighter than the 28-135 IS
I think it is a great lens...I've used it for portraits, weddings, and practically everything else.
