Hello all - I hope everyone's afternoon has been as sunny as mine! Just a wanted a bit of feedback on my "Not quite right" challenge entry.
I personally thought this was one of my better portraits - and that it met the challenge in a fairly obvious way - any suggestions as to why this bombed?
I was sitting at around 4.7 for most of the week, the last couple of days saw a pretty dramatic rise!
Er, broken wrists. To me that seems obvious - but then my brain can be a bit abstract sometimes... It's a shame if people didn't see it that way - I did a whole shoot with Riss specifically for this challenge. It wasn't easy for her to put eye liner on!
I really liked this picture (exposure, framing, etc.), but I didnt catch your message on that scene... For me the "not quite right" thing was not so obvious, because:
1- She seems very happy and "movement able" for a person with two broken wrists;
2- I didnt realize that her wrists were broken because of her mood and also because of the simmetry on the two arms (it´s very unusual someone with two arms broken). That seems more like some gloves or some "wrist cloth".
Besides, a wrist broken and regularly "repaired" it´s not something wrong... it would be if she had her right arm broken and her left arm fixed...

That's great - thanks for taking the time to comment. I don't normally moan about photos not doing very well but I find it soooo hard to accept that people didn't understand this shot.
My view on how this shot works is: pretty expression and "normal" style portrait, but it's not right because her wrists are broken. I wasn't even going to mention her wrists in the title but I thought I had better to make it obvious.
Does anyone not see it this way? I'm genuinely intrigued.
e.t.a this shot came 4th (and it's a great shot I really like it!) - but it's a similar thing - it's not right because it's broken and otherwise a very beautiful thing.
Am I missing something with the technically wrong with my shot? Pose, lighting etc? Sorry to be persistent but I've not received any negative feedback, I'd love someone to lay into it!! *holds breath* :-)
I gave you a 5. I got what you were going for, and I didn't ding you for DNMC, but I also didn't think it portrayed the challenge very well. I think the phrase "not quite right" can be equated to "something wrong". I don't think it's wrong to have broken wrists, just unfortunate. To compare that idea to the 4th place shot, there's definitely a couple of things wrong there. The statue on the right has no head! The one on the left has no arm! That ain't right.
Regardless, I don't really see any DNMC issues with your score breakdown. It's too perfect a curve for that. My guess would be that most people got what you were going for but simply weren't wowed by the image itself. It's just not that engaging a portrait to me, so there was nothing to push my vote into the top half.
