Teafran made an excellent comment about my robin photo having a halo from over sharpening, which I didn't notice until I read the comment. This is why I love comments and part of the reason I participate in DPC, to get better! (i also love all the comments praising the shot :) ) So recently I processed this photo of the dove, and tried to pay extra care to not over sharpen. Any thoughts? General critiques are good too, I have thick skin, let me have it ;)

I could direct you to this tutorial.

Teafran is exactly right I think about the sharpening halos in the first picture. I think the processing in the second picture is fine, although it seems a little noisy. I'm guessing there wasn't much natural light?

awesome tutorial, thanks!

and you're right about the light, it was a sorta rainy, cloudy day, late in the afternoon. maybe a little more neat image would do it some good?

Only problem with that tutorial is you need to remember it can not be used in basic editing. I am not sure what the original image looked like but it appears you may have added some blur to the back ground on your first image or you really got a sharp drop off in DOF, if blur was added then that would be a problem with the rules if your DOF was created with exposure that is OK and works well for the shot. As far as over sharpenig I think you may have gone a little to much and to me makes the bird look somewaht fake for my taste but on this site people love the over sahrpened look so if that is what you like then go for it. Hope the wishy washy answer helped...lol
