And Judi he hasn't entered any challenges because he just joined apparently for some free press.

Karmat IMHO this post is no different from any other that gets locked/deleted because someone joins and throws out some product/company/whatever except that Judi posted it instead of him. You certainly wouldn't look at any of those others with that type of attitude now would you?

actually, the fact that judi posted it does make a difference. a huge difference. how long the original poster has been a member is actually one of the considerations we take in determining if something is spammish.

So the difference is had he posted the link to Amazon it would have gotten deleted/locked. And because Judi did it its OK? IMHO Spam is Spam no matter who delivers it to my screen.
The book has been published 6 days ago. The Erik profile is made today. There are zero images viewed by the user. Congratulate our member for his new book? He hasn't been posting anything because he was working on the book? Marketing bs.

I am sure he's a great guy, and the book might be superb.
Maybe this new member talked to Judi, and just found out about DPC. How many DPC'ers would be here if we all got this sort of welcome thread?

I agree. But I think that if it was simply worded more like a "welcome thread" then there would be less dispute over it. As it is, it does seem a bit like spam... minus the Judi part.

What Bear said. It's not so far fetched to think that a DPCer who got news of a friend's commercial success would use that opportunity to introduce the person to our site (in which case Judy would be spamming us to him).

Oh, I doubt it. Judi's one of the sharper crayons in our collective box, certainlly sharp enough to realize she could have introduced her friend a little more effectively, given the reaction her post produced.
