I currently am sporting a new personal worst by a whopping .38 points in Textures. Yay; go me! I could definitely have a real stinker of an entry here. So I want company under my rock :-)
Winner of this side challenge is the one who has a new personal worst by the greatest margin (so .5 lower than your previous personal worst beats someone else's .1 lower than their previous personal worst). Tie breaker will be lowest placement in the challenge.
OK, my personal worst is a 4.31. My entry has risen a bit now to 4.45. In order for me to be in contention, my entry has to finish below 4.31. Let's say I only manage a 4.30. Then I have a new personal worst by .01 (4.31-4.30). If you have a new personal worst by .02, you beat me.
If we both have worsts by .01 but you place 200th and I place 199th, you win the tiebreaker.
I see... I was thinking it was a challenge to see who has the worste scoring photo ever... In that case I would be in the running. But for now I have a pretty good score for me.
The Texture challenge has over 300 entries. As I have noticed a trend that when there are more participants, the scores tend to be harsher. That might have something to do with it. But then again I havent voted yet. It is only a trend that I have noticed on here.

You might be on to something here, but the logic and/or mass psychology of why it might work this way escapes me.
Maybe the volume of images means that people feel they have less time then usual to stop and look and so just hand out 5s without actually giving it much thought.
I'm in there with the low scores, mine is sitting around 4.5 or so just now. I'm really surprised how badly it's doing, I figured at worst it would get an average score maybe 5.5 or something, but there must be something about it that voters are really disagreeing with!

I'm not sure I agree with the theory... I think that it was just a lot harder to get decent photos of textures than people originally thought. Do I think that the scores should be this low? No. But I also think that people are coming off voting in flora, fauna, freestudy and postcard -- and I don't think the photos in this challenge could possibily stand up well against those, just by nature of the subject. I predict they'll rise steadily over the week (although I thought mine would rise over night and it certainly did not :)
