I was goofing off with this shot, because I felt it needed a little something. For the first time in 10+ years I went to Lens Flare. Is it possible that I've tastefully added a lens flare to a photo or am I kidding myself?
Edit: I think I must be kidding myself, because every time I open it up I crack up laughing, heh
I have never understood why anyone would want to add lens flare to their image...especially the canned variety from Photoshop.
Oh, that's not the ordinary canned variety. I changed settings 'n stuff. I even cloned out an orb. Clearly that makes my lens flare superior to the "canned variety".
I like flare but prefer the natural variety--the canned version is too regular for my taste. Even your modified canned flare is pretty symmetrical. That aside, I don't think it hurts your picture too much.
I think voters appreciate flare, especially of the tasteful variety.
I like flare... plus it reminds me of one of my fav movies, "Office Space", where Jennifer Aniston was 'encouraged' to wear a certain number of pieces of "Flare" at her waitressing job to show spirit.
For some reason, I'm drawn to the sun, and put it in the frame for most of my landscapey shots, and get lot's of bubbly lens flare. Probably because I'm clueless about the ways of proper photography. But hey, I just put three landscapes in an office boardroom with flare in two of them, and they want another, similar, six foot long print for the lobby. They must also be clueless in the ways of photography.
I'm not sure that it adds anything to your photo, but it definitely can be a nice addition (in certain situations).
