My apologies to those who were offended. I've been entering challenges for some time so I can be pretty sure there's no such thing as a 'good' picture in my archives, in the context.
This is, in fact, a photo taken the day after the challenge was announced. It's a mistake and an accident. The camera settings are manual and there's an onboard flash set to go. I probably left my finger on the button or accidentally fired off a shot at the ground in front of my feet. The snow is in fact deliberately blown out in order to get some sort of decent exposure on the skiers - hence the flash, also. By moving the slider to max reduction of exposure in RAW editing and broddling about with curves and contrast etc, this is what shows:

I think you went with the right one. They are all good but the trees & cabin definitely works best : )
^ An hour before the deadline, I had this one uploaded. My wife warned me about taking it out in favor of a portrait. Nobody outside of Thailand scores well with a portrait in a big free study. But, noooo... I went with a sentimental favorite. Score one for Mrs. Scalvert. You can count the portraits the made the top 50 on one hand. :-/

FWIW, I scored your daughter an 8 ... and this shot I probably would have given a 7, maybe even a 6 ... it just doesn't speak to me the way her portrait did ...

that may have worked ... some dramatic music and a whispering voice telling me to vote it a 10?!
I am happy with the results, I came in to 'tell' a story and I did.
Contrary to what some commenters thought, the girl was absolutely NOT part of the wedding party. My children and I went to the location to do some photo shoot ideas I had for a Free Study. That wedding party just happened to be there when I was taking some shots...when they moved into the frame I was first annoyed that it ruined the shot, but then quickly realized it had made it all the better!!!

I had quite a few to choose from so it was hard going...the choices were:
It's That Smile Loved the moment captured, but with many comments and then a ton of views and fav's at deviantART I thought it was no longer truly 'hidden'
TA-DAH! Another happy moment and feel captured that I love so. Taken the same day as the It's That Smile for a the Red II challenge but I never entered.
The Rose Garden Beautiful and certainly scenic, but did not capture or mood or tell a story for me.
The Apple Peddler - Buy An Apple Milady? I had entered a silimar shot with different pose and mood for the Fruits & Vegetables Challenge.
Lean On Me For me it really captures a mood and tells a story at the same time.
The Finishing Touch Very happy candid capture. Was glad to have had my camera - as soon as I saw these children milling about the sandcastle I knew there would be some good captures. Had entered another shot taken the same time, A Boy And His Castle, in a Free Study. Again, I did not want to enter something that had been seen in a challenge before.

I think your final choice was the best one as well - a great portrait that speaks to you but also captures the beauty of your daughter. I gave it an 8 as well.
By no means do I mean to insult the top three, all are stunningly beautiful, but I was a tad disappointed that there was not a good range of different types of captures to represent all the style that are out there...i.e. scenery, portrait, street, emotive etc. etc.

The old hound reminded me so much of Abe Vigoda in the cemetery scene, whispering to Al Pacino.
But I wasn't sure about setting a record for the longest title.
This is the one I wanted to re-edit and enter but I could not find the original. It has some wow factor to it and might have scored better than the others. Maybe a 6+ with re-edit.
I like this one, to me it has an artistic feel to it, not likely to score well tough. My guess 5.4

Certainly not an easy challenge to have to choose just one image for.
Entered this candid with no regrets, as I still feel a certain magic about it and that there was so
little post-processing done on it that I didn't need the advanced editing rule set to enter it:

My first entry was going to be something I thought might score well. I did see several somewhat similar shots in the challenge. It is recent enough (actually shot during the entry period) to be in the upcoming Free Study but I have decided not to enter it there either.
Instead I opted to go with something which would hopefully be different from what people usually see. It did not score as well as the other might have, but I did get some good comments and did not see anything remotely like it. Which can be hard with over 1,000 shots. With so many entries I tossed out the hope of scoring high and sought to hopefully inspire people to try someting else. I tried to carefully find an angle where I could make it seem like the palm trees were coming out of the top of the sculptures. In processing I was trying to get a more colorful version but could not get one I liked enough so I went with a monochrome one.
