ok, really dumb photoshop question, but It's driving me up the wall!
I have Elements 6.0, I'm just trying to put a frame around the picture. When I increase the canvas size, it is greying out the box where you tell where to get the canvas extension color--so it's not adding color to the new part of the canvas.
Help! It should be something obvious, but it's eluding me.
Thinking on it further, if you have an *actual* problem, it may be that the image is set with a transparent BG and so it will not accept color. When you add the no-color border, does it show a checkerboard pattern around the image or what?
I've already played with this image before, and didn't like my results after awhile. So I went back to the original and played again. I have no problem with the first iterative that I played with, but I do with this one.
This happens when you don't have a Background Layer. I've run into this when I decide to do a Layer for Background on the background layer for whatever reason. Get yourself a background layer in there and you're good to go. One way would be to use the Layer/New/Background from Layer option on your bottom data layer.
Yup, I didn't get back to it in time. Another thing that happens sometimes, is I'll copy an image to clipboard, then open a new document (which will default to the size of the clipboard image) and forget to fill the BG with a solid color in creating the new document, then I have all those issues.

As soon as you paste in the clipboard data, just "flatten layers" and you'll have an ordinary PS document with a Background.

Right, it's just that I won't REALIZE I have a problem until I try to add border or do something else that doesn't work on a transparent layer. Once I stop scratching my head (I am *slow* on the uptake sometimes) I go "DOH!" and do just that.
