The expression used where I live is "in perspective." There seem to be a lot of entries in the proportion challenge which play on this concept. There is a difference between perspective and proportion, isn't there?
Some (like mine) do both - it's best to look twice if you only see perspective the first time (though I saw some off challenge pics, I've voted on 250 and I didn't see all that many OT).

English is not my motherlanguage and I´m not very educated in it (as probably can be seen) but I think I understood it the same way as you KaDi. I was thinking that you can have 2 or more proportion of the same thing but not that something was a proportion of another in some size ratio meening.
You can do and see things "in perspective" but you can also do things "out of proportion" which means to overdo it or to over-react.
So, I think we're taking this challenge subject out of proportion by over-analyzing it to death... ;)
True, but there is always some discussion before a challenge about what 'fits' and TONS more now because the interpretations are so varied.
These challeneges keep challenging the way i vote. Perhaps this time i need another way, as many of the pics are close enough but (to me) are not on -topic, but that may be my narrow mindedness.
Perhaps we go with purty pic 8, really purty pic 9, purty bad pic 3, purty average 5 (like it 6, don't like it 4).
In general, I think we read way too much into the challenge topics.
The topics IMO are just there to give us a reason to take pictures every week as opposed to having another POTW (picture of the week) contest. It's much better to have a common topic in mind than not have any particular reason at all for taking a shot other than entering a contest.
So when I vote I always consider a combination of the photographic quality and composition first. Secondly if this is a photo I would like to see on mine or someone elses wall. The challenge topic is of little interest to me but does help for another point or two if done nicely and with taste. It's a photographic challenge, not an interpretation contest.
For example:This photo won the Irony challenge. I would never have it on my wall (or even my ex-wifes wall for that matter). But it did follow the challenge topic bang on. Although fun (and sad) and all, I would not have voted this to win!
The latest winner in the serendipity challenge however is IMO not even close to topic but a beautiful photograph that I voted very high. Composition, light, quality and technical etc. was great, hence a deserving photo challenge winner.
