It didn't come up for me in voting, but such a gap is not uncommon for a subject that you know will not have a neutral effect on people. Obviously the commenters thought you conveyed your idea well. I agree with them. The unusual angle and partial view helps to convey the idea. I suspect many of the low votes were not saying your image was bad, but rather that they found it disturbing, and they didn't know how to respond to it, so no comment. It wasn't the pleasing scene that people like to give high votes to. Don't let the sub-5 score bother you. You did well with this.
