I am now going through my prints and making some mounted prints on styrene with small titles and my name in the border area.
And as I'm about to do this one, I realize, I never really gave much thought to the name. Currently, it's "Nature's Palette".
1) Any suggestions for a better name?
2) What do you think about including the title, versus a one line description (e.g., "Winter Sunset over New York City"). Or what would you write?
I am going to print a series of these mounted and bordered prints at 11x14 (and larger) for potential resale, as well as to bring to galleries for samples.
It won't be centered, it will be below it, in little print. e.g.,
I'm going to sell these unframed; the idea is that people could chose to frame it as is, or add a mat, leave the text, or even cover it up. All comments appreciated!
I like to see prints dated, myself, so you might want to add that. "Sunset over the Hudson — Neal Shapiro, 12-22-2008" for example. Everyone's gonna recognize NYC from the buildings shown, so name the river. I'm assuming it's the Hudson? The date would go over by the signature, usually, on the right side witht he title on the left side. "2008" would be adequate dating as well, although for this image you might want to locate it at the end of the year. "December, 2008" would work, as would "Winter, 2008"...
"Fire in the Sky" (too cliche?)
"Countdown to the Apocalypse" (too ominous?)
"Knock knock. Who's there? Orange. Orange who? Orange you glad I took this picture?" (too knock knockish?)
Good suggestions! But none of them have "stuck" in my mind yet as the new title.
I do have one problem I just thought of--this photo is going to be published in a book this year, with my old title. (And it's already up on Kodak POTD that way; not changeable.)
I was just changing it "back" and I had another thought....

I guess a photo can have two titles (and actually, I have another variation of this scene now, thanks to the APAW project. So it's probably good to have a different titles for the two different shots.)

I do this on all my prints for the same reason(s) -- also that way it can be displayed unframed (like a poster), with the border serving in place of the mat. I always try to position the text so that even if it ends up covered by the mat, some of the border can show if desired.
