We are interested in getting fresh content for our Tutorial and How'd They Do That sections of the site. We are offering $2.00 DPCPrint Gift Certificates per approved tutorial/how-to.

If you are interested, fill out the Contact Us Form and let us know either the image you'd like to write a How'd They Do That for or the idea for your tutorial.

Oh sure. Now you offer gift certificates. You just waited until after I submitted my first tutorial to do that. ;-)

Jokes aside, that's a great idea Langdon. I look forward to see what our members come up with.

I suggest you make a rule that says that tutorials submitted become the nonexclusive property of the site (copyright owned by author but nonretractable rights of publication given to the site).

I work with a lot of journals and documents putting them into e-publications, and it would be inconceivable for an author down the road to insist that his article is removed from a publication. Once it's published in a journal, the journal has it's own publication and republication rights.

That shouldn't take away the authors rights to republish or rewrite as well, but they should not be able to "pull" their publications on a technical grievance.

I think section 6.2 of the Terms Of Use may say exactly that, but it would probably be a good idea to make it absolutely clear. Personally, I think D&L could have said "no" to Setzler's request (but I Am Not A Lawyer). D&L probably removed the tutorials simply because they are just "nice guys".

I wouldn't say that section 6.2 covers tutorials. It appears to cover member information and (I would argue) thumbnails. "Media" ought to be defined to include tutorials or "how'd they do that" guides. Media is capitalized in the rules, but not defined at all in the definition section, and I think that's a bit of a problem.

That said, I agree with Eddy that D&L are just nice guys and they could have taken issue with the removal but chose not to.
