both of my images in the current challenges, are victums of 'does not meet challenge'. ddararrrrhhhhhhhhhhgggggggggggg.... i think they both may have done well otherwise, i am getting a lot of.. ohh nice shot, but strength?? or silhouet???... :(
i thought they might fit, but now that so many people don't think so, i can see their point... it is just frustrating. I am tempted to retake them this week, and re-enter them, under a better fitting challenge.. :S

I am learning my lesson the hard way. I am not sure why i keep submitting when i haven't TOTALLY considered the 'meeting the challenge' requirment as strictly as the 'good photo' requirement
One of my very favourite shots of the challenge, if I ignore the topic, would fit that bill. A sensational shot of something but just not a silhouette. Still marked it well, but not the 10 I would have given it otherwise.
Wonder if it is yours leaf ... sensational shot though if it is (you'll know if I do mean your shot as I have only made that comment the one time).
But at least we try, right? What is it that mama used to always say..."if at first you don't succeed..."
I know that everyone has such wide and varied ideas of what does meet a challenge or not. In my mind, I have to believe that people submit photos that in their heart they believe fit the topic, and I try to look at each photo standing on its own, knowing the photographer really thinks it meets the challenge. If I can see it in any remote way, then great. If I can't see it AT ALL, then I will try to find something in the picture to comment on that is positive, and rate it accordingly. I don't recall ever saying to anyone in a comment, "DOES NOT MEET CHALLENGE" because to them, it DOES. I have gotten that in each of the four challenges I've entered (including the two being voted on now), and I keep thinking, "WHAT??" In my mind, they fit completely. But we are all so different, with different experience and knowlege bases, so I take it with a grain of salt, and keep taking pictures. Yes, maybe they're crappy, but it's fun, no one is getting hurt (except for a few bruised ego moments), and each time my score has improved a little. I'll just keep on keepin' on, I guess.
By now more than I'm wayting for the challenge to finish and see the results, I'm waiting for it to finish just to ask a few folks why is my shot not a silouette to them. I think some are such deep thinkers that only shots where the subject is completely black and background as light as possible are silhouettes to them. I checked the english-romanian dictionary just to make sure the word has the same meaning as romanian similar word "silueta". It is that what it says there. It could probably have a different conotation tho in english but as far as I know, silhouette is when you can't define much more than the shape of something. That can be done in so many ways and not just by a black subject (wich I'm sure many submitters simply colored em black in photoshop) and a verry bright background. What I learned from this is that on dpchallenge doesn't count the true meaning of the word but what site council or whoever wrote the description of the challenge sais "Silhouettes are created by backlit subjects, which causes them to appear solid and without much detail" again I say it could probably be different in english but It's just not how I understand the word through it's similar word in my language. A silhouette can be verry well be represented in so many different ways.
