Hey guys, I know I've been away for a while but I need your expertise.
The guy I shot today wants proof sheets of all of the pics I look. I figured I'd just contact sheet 'em up in PS and print 'em through Smugmug, but it seems at $2 per sheet, the 23 pages of shots (and he wants two copies, too) are going to be quite expensive. Anyone know a place that'll do proof sheets cheaper? What sort of quality is expected on these, and what kind of stock? Would it be advisable to just do 'em at home on my printer, or would the cost of the ink/photo paper put me back in the same place?
I guess, a primer on proof sheets would be nice :D

I got paid $50 extra for it, which I figured would be ample. But at $2 per sheet, it's not going to be enough for Smugmug prices...What does Costco charge?
I don't know what Costco charges because I live about 30 miles from the nearest one, but several of my friends have told me that they have good service, and the prices are best there. You will have to register to find out I guess.
pro labs offer press printed proof books - like $1.15 for a 10x13 page (including template - you drag and drop and it does the rest) spiral binding runs $4 or so. You can do any number on a page.
Or try a press book - some of the paperback books from mypublisher are cheap, or labs offer them now too.

You know, I make "proof sheets" of all my photos by "printing" each folder of images to an Adobe PDF -- why not give the customer electronic proofs instead of paper?
I agree with your sentiments entirely GeneralE, and usually do it that way, but he specifically asked for paper--They're headshots, and he's going to be sharing them with a particularly old-fashioned agent. :P
