Hi,

I'll be spending Christmas with relatives in the North of England - just near Bolton. There won't be too much time to get out and about, maybe a day or two, so I'm asking for advice on the most scenic areas to get to, bearing in mind that the weather will probably be miserable. I don't want to trek out somewhere just to find so much mist that I can't get a shot.

So... is it to be the Dales, the Peak District or the Lakes? I'm swinging towards the Dales, Swaledale, Wensleydale, but I read that Padley Gorge is also a must-see. I know there're references to these places in the forum, but I'm especially thinking about the weather. Any advice? Thanks!

Hi Chris, sounds like someone gave you a good piece of advice! Padley Gorge is beautiful and looks stunning as the leaves fall from the trees. I only managed to take a few photos there a couple of years ago but I would love to go back!

I'm not very good at geography but is the Peak District nearer to Bolton than the Dales? If so I'd head to the Peaks! A friend of mine gets out there quite a lot and you might find a little inspiration on his website.

Weather wise...I'm afraid there is just no way of telling! Best thing is no matter how nice the day looks when you set out be prepared for rain! I went to Padley Gorge in November and found it to be very well covered by the trees so when it did rain it barely disturbed me at all!

You might also want to check out Falc's profile as he lives up that way and I am sure he could point you in the right direction of some 'must see' spots :o)

Thanks Natalya. I loved Richard's shots, and I checked out Falc also - his shot of Mam Tor above the fog is a stunner. I think I'm just have to try to get both areas in!

Richard and I are trying to find a time to get together over the next few months for a shoot so feel free to PM me when you know the dates you might be around and you never know we might be able to catch up :o)
