i am kind of new here ... so i thought i'll ask what you think about a couple of pictures i took a few weeks ago in the Imperial Sand Dunes (CA) in the very small region that has not been wrecked by off roaders yet. It is really hard to get the color balance right!
They look good, I would say the second one if any goes against the "thirds" rule, the grasses don't look good smack in the middle of the picture.If the pic. is large enough maybe a crop to one side would improve it.

In the first one I like how you can feel the movement of the grass by looking at the sand in front of it.

Peecee has a point but dont get to stuck in some rules (you dont seem to).
there are also very interesting living things out there ... i almost stepped on this little fellow:
and this is an exceedingly rare parasitic plant ... in the USA i think it only occurs here and in some spots in Arizona ... the native americans used to eat it, hence the name sandfood ... and, yes, it looks like a mushroom
love the desert ... just don't want to be there in summer ;-)))
Overall - really good seeing. I like 3 and 4 best. Try the exact same shots right at SUNRISE if possible. The really long shadows along with the warm light really pop the patterns in the sand. Even at the time of day you took these a warming filter may help a bit.
On Dunes II - I wouldn't worry that much about the ROT, but the soft focus in the very foreground is a detractor for me.
A few weeks back I drove over to Imperial Valley to take images like yours. I did not know where to go and was not in the right place during good lighting. All my shots were on the South side of highway 78 because that was the only place I could park. Hope I get a chance to go there again.
These are absolutely incredible. I would like to go out there for photos as well sometime. Please do share where you parked? From what I could see driving by a few weeks ago, everything near the freeway was all tracked up.

People use this 'rule' so much to be unique, that photos now using centre orientation are what looks unique.

I wouldn't normally quote this "rule", I often break it myself, but I just felt it applied in this case, for me the grasses in the center spoil slightly what is a beautiful photograph.
if you drive to the east side of the dunes on CA78, there is a dirt road heading north just west of the railroad tracks ... it looks slightly scary to drive down there in a normal street car, but it is a good graded road and you will have no problems ... drive north for a few miles (past the wildlife watch area, which is a bad joke!) and you can park in one of the washes on the left ... then you just walk towards the dunes (maybe 1-2 miles ... it is going to be HOT ... take enough water and make sure you will find your car again!!!)
alternatively, you could park at the observation point south of the 78 and walk into the dunes on the north side of the street from there.
I really like the third and forth ones. On the third one I wish the colors would have been a little richer, but really really like the sand texture. The forth one I just plain like.
