Oooh....can I shoot a Yanko???? I hear they are rare in the back woods of DPC....can bite if provoked and will run at the site of competition.....hehehehehehe!!

Only if your camera's shutter can go as high as 1/16,000th of a second cuz I hear he's fast. :P
I was planning on a trip to a nature centre so when I saw the challenge i was very excited - perfect as there are badgers, otters, foxes etc living in Natural (but still enclosed) habitats.
But then I thought that it feels a bit like cheating as you know the wildlife is there.

I don't think that's cheating. If I had a zoo close by that's where I would go otherwise I would have a pic of a squirrel, geese or ducks. That's the only wildlife I've seen around here lately. :P

Well, all non-domesticated animals are wild life. Birds, fish, deer, etc. I think some people mistake Wild with Savage.
Reading the description it says: "living in a natural environment."
I think some may DNMC those that are clearly in zoos as being non-natural. Some won't. It's up to personal voter preference. I don't think I'd take the risk.
There is a zoo nearby but no way at all to shoot the animals well through the mesh they use. I'm just glad this this challenge wasn't announced in the dead of winter when most wildlife is doing the smart thing, and either hibernating or gone south!
Just have to ensure I wear blaze orange cause it's hunting season in these here parts...

Of course, I will admit that maybe I am biased because we have our annual zoo trip planned this week, and the nearest zoo is 2 hours away -- so it takes some effort. :P
Let's just take a good look at the challenge description...
For the purpose of this challenge, "wildlife" should be considered non-domesticated mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians living in a natural environment.
I think 'should' is the pivotal word here. And some would say that a zoo animal, raised in captivity and ideally in an environment that replicates the wild as much as possible, is in its natural environment. Kelli took a lovely shot of a lion for the Grimm challenge. Would it be dnmc'd in this one, cause the lion's not out roaming the savannah, and may never have roamed one in its whole life?
And how about injured wild animals in rehab centres?

our zoo is near (15 minutes of car) but I would try something in the lake before go in the zoo.
LOL! We're having such wonderful weather this week that I had already decided to go to the zoo on Wednesday. I get better pictures when my son is in school and I can go alone.

Just put the Yanko in the fridge for half an hour like everyone does with their insect shots and he'll be plenty slow (especially if you load the fridge with beer).
