Today on my way back from my girlfriends i decided to go for a walk up the side of a mountain here in South Wales. To be fair there was not much to be seen on the way up, but on the way down i noticed some wasp type insects hovering around me.
Normally i wouldnt even bother trying to photograph anything in flight, but the fact they would hover completely then zip around me made the task an exciting challenge. I decided to go for it. I took about 40 images and these are probably the best 3 i have worth posting as they are sort of in focus.
Taken with my Canon 450D + Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro 1:2. This is the first time i have posted anything in a while and looking forward to your comments and any advice you may have.
P.S. Does anyone know what insects these are? They dont appear to have a sting but do resemble some type of wasp.
Yep, Paul, they are hoverflies. Damn hard little buggers to catch in flight as they will hover in front of you for a moment, then zoom off on a tangent, before coming back in front of you. Great captures!
