Run a search on SS or iS and you will not find such a thing. Then check out the photos of passports and look at the downloads on iS, for instance, and you will see they are very low numbers. Is it worth doing? I don't think so. Leave the mundane to others and shoot something new (a mantra for stock).
I didn't go further to give SS my passport info when requested. I offer them an image of my driving license but was rejected. So I'm now with iStock. I just don't feel comfortable giving out such important info where it could be used in the whole world. At least I know my driving license is only valid in my country.
Shutterstock didn't even require an ID from me. Is this something new?
Must be - I know that I didn't give them any of my passport data. Nor would I. I got pissed at iStock and wouldn't sign up when they wanted my driver's license - don't see why it's any of their business.

I suspect it is so they know you are who you say you are and are not just running around the internet commiting image theft and benefiting from other peoples hard work, but that is only IMHO.

iStock needs to know you are who you said you are. At least I know people can't fraud my driving license to get a loan or credit card, but passport could be a serious matter...
Has anyone made their id's (Passport) by taking a snapshot with your camera and blacking out the face and numbers?
If your talking about US Passport's or Visa's they are very strict on the photographs. I have two neighbors that had me to take pictures for there visa renewal. The photographs were accepted with their renewal application but as you can see from this link they have a lot of guidelines when it comes to passport and visa pictures.
Edit: Sorry misunderstood your OP. I thought you were asking about PP pictures. Not just for SS to have. My bad, but I leave the link to the site incase anyone wants to know what the US looks for in a PP photo; if you don't mind.
