So, I finally got a quicj chance to take some shots with my new 300D. Nothing special tho. Just around the house. Check 'em out. I can see a difference in quality but not sure it is that dramatic. Will have to wait until I use a tripod & have ideal lighting for shots to see the true results of the cam.
Were all of these shot with the kit lens? Although the kit lens is good, don't base the cameras performance until you use another lens also. I have the Canon EF 50mm f\1.8 and this camera performs outstanding with that lens. Super sharp and very nice for low light. For less than $100 I would recommend it. It really is a great camera but I didn't notice much of a difference in quality until I got the 50mm. I previously have the Canon PowerShot G2.
Thanks Bill! Where did you get the 50mm? That's the portrait lens right? I wanna get a good telefoto lens. I was gonna get the 300mm US IS by canon but Jacko is selling his for another & now I am confused. Any thoughts?
Maybe it's my eyes but they all seem a little soft like the focus didn't quite lock. Did you do any post processing other than sizing? If not I would suggest a little USM to bring back the sharpness that resizing takes away.
I would suggest setting up one of the paramaters to boost contrast/colour/sharpness/saturation. This should help with the soft focus issue. With the settings at default the focus is a bit on the soft side especially with the kit lens.

There are 3 different paramaters you can set up. You can set them as you wish, I have one set with all the settings pushed to the maximum, and one with settings on sharpness and colour set to +1. Just a matter of playing about until you are happy.
Try using different settings for different shooting modes, I went through different variations ans now shoot with everything on zero. I find that the computer under my desk does a better job manipulating the digits than the one in the camera.

Thanks! I checked out that link & asked to be notified when that lens was back in stock. Definitely think I wanna get that. I also want a good macro lens & telefoto lens.
