There are never any dumb questions. Actually, I don't know. There, I don't know either. I suppose you can. Check with each individual zoo's info. In Japan, we can take tripods.
I do here in Portland.
The Japanees Gardens here won't allow a tripod but they do allow a monopod..? Strange rule but they don't want holes in the ground.
A lady at the Dallas zoo had a cart for all of her PRIME 300mm+ lenses and tripod and other equipment... so I think it'd be safe for me to take my tripod :-)
