I usually do pretty well at receiving comments, but not getting any on my chaos submission. 88 votes and only one comment. I'm sure I'll get more as the week goes on (I haven't left any comments yet myself!), but wondering if others are also low on comments this challenge?
My image also has low comments (3 so far with 86 votes), but I suspect this is also reflected in my mid-range score. I had the feeling the image wasn't really creative enough to warrant comments and it seems I was right. Oh well... I'm hoping my window submission will be more "eye-popping."
Commenting is WAY down! With 375 votes, I've got a total of 5 comments on both entries combined (zero on Chaos). On the other hand, maybe that's a good thing since two of the Out of Place commenters apparently didn't notice the object filling 1/3 of the frame that obviously doesn't belong there. Hmm...
The way I see it, comments are attributed loosely following this pattern:
6.3+ = lots of comments. Good image, stimulates viewers. The higher the score, the more comments you get.
Example:
6.0 to 6.2 = 10 comments or more usually seen. Image is above average, but not a contender.
Example:
4.0 to 5.9 = few comments. Image is seen as ho-hum by many. Not bad, but not great either. A funny or witty image in this category may get you more comments

3.0 to 3.9 = poor image. People don't bother commenting on these.

Below 3.0 = very poor image, too "artsy", way off topic, "bad taste". Lots of comments.

I usually don't complain about number of comments since I pretty much know how many comments I will receive after the first day or day and a half of voting is completed. Most people will comment on what stimualtes them. That's just the way it goes.

That`s pretty much been my experience except for my "out of place submission" which has 33 comments the most I`ve ever received except for my "four elements" effort.
It`s been bouncing about between 6.1 & 6.2 and there is nothing (IMO) to make it worthy of so many comments. It`s got me a bit baffled.
Be it for me to suggest, but the score images get during a challenge is the most important comment you will receive. Pay attention to it.
If you get a low score and compare it against others in that challenge and still can't figure out why yours is doing poorly then chances are the comments folks leave won't help much either.
A short chat session with one of the many great photographers at this site will teach you more about improving your photography than 10,000 comments.
